IDAC Puts the cart before the horse
The Investigating Directorate Against Corruption recently faced tough questioning over its arrest of Brigadier Dineo Mokwele.
The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry investigated the legal basis for the case. Chairperson Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga questioned if there were enough actual facts to start the probe.
Mokwele worked at BMW before her appointment to Crime Intelligence. Investigators claimed her hiring was corrupt because she had no prior policing experience. The commission called this assumption a massive leap in logic.
The commission noted that many experts join the police without knowing how to salute. Simply lacking previous police experience does not prove fraud. The state is under fire for acting on suspicion rather than solid proof.
