Provisional Withdrawal of Charges Against General Khumalo and Mokwele
Pretoria. The National Director of Public Prosecutions has provisionally withdrawn all fraud and corruption charges against Crime Intelligence head Lieutenant General Dumisani Khumalo, Brigadier Dineo Mokwele, and their co accused.
The decision was communicated in official correspondence sent to the legal representatives of the accused following formal representations submitted earlier this year.
According to notifications provided by National Director Advocate Andy Mothibi, an internal review alongside input from the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption revealed that critical investigative steps remain outstanding. Prosecutors concluded that proceeding to trial on the current record would be premature until further evidence gathering is completed by investigators.
In the directive, Mothibi clarified that the provisional withdrawal pauses the prosecution rather than granting an absolute acquittal. However, strict conditions have been attached to any future legal action. The matter cannot be re enrolled, and no fresh decision to prosecute the accused can be taken without the express written approval of the National Director.
The case involves complex allegations surrounding Crime Intelligence procurement and secret service funds. For now, the legal proceedings against the senior police officers remain suspended pending the outcome of the additional investigation.
